In Memory

Suzanne Parry

Suzanne Parry

Suzanne died quietly on September 20,2023

On September 20, 2023, Suzanne Parry, of Salt Lake City, quietly departed this life to join her family in the hereafter. With her passing, we have lost a teacher, aunt, sister, friend, craftswoman, and gardener whose presence enriched innumerable lives.

Born February 19, 1951, Suzanne arrived as a last-minute surprise, when her mother, Priscilla Lawson Parry, was 45. As a child, she attended Dilworth Elementary School, and after becoming an elementary school teacher, she returned to Dilworth where she worked for much of her 48 years as a teacher. In that time, the operas she organized with her students became a beloved tradition, and she received numerous professional honors.

Outside the classroom, Suzanne developed an expertise in the crafts of her pioneer ancestors: quilting, spinning wool and dyeing the yarn. She demonstrated these skills at This Is The Place Heritage Park, and shared stories of the historic houses there and the people who inhabited them. In addition to history, Suzanne possessed a deeply felt appreciation for the natural world, which she expressed as a gardener. She grew iris, the different varieties labeled in her backyard garden, and served as the president for the Utah Iris Society.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Priscilla Lawson and David Robert, and sister Priscilla Jean Smith. She is survived by her brother David and his wife Miriam, and her nieces Emily, Bobbi, and Wynne and nephews Christopher Smith and Patrick Smith, their families, countless friends, and two generations of former students. May she grace the next world with her creativity and intelligence as she did this one.

A visitation will take place on Friday, Sept. 29, from 6 to 8 pm at 1889 South 1700 East, followed by a second visitation starting at 11 am on Saturday, Sept. 30, prior to the funeral at noon.

It's always sad to hear about another Highlander leaving our world. It is a joy though to know that she is with our Lord and Savior Jesus. What a life and legacy she leaves. What numerous lives she touched, encouraged and showed by example what a full life is! You will be missed!

When the notice of Suzanne's passing was published, I said prayer for the blessing of enjoying the times that I shared with her from Dilworth thru Highland and smiled!
From Nuwbys class to the Aurberidun @ the park her smiles will last an eternity by the Iris blumes that will succeed Suzanne!
My heart goes out to her family for their loss, knowing she did what she love, and what she did, sharing with those, the part that made her what she was!
REST IN PEACE Sister Parry, you will be missed!
Amen!

Sorry to hear of the passing of Suzanne. We grew up in the same ward. Went to Dilworth, Clayton Jr.High and Highland together. She always had a cheerful and positive personality. Sounds like she left his world better through her loving service. Well done Suzanne!

Thoughts and prayers for Suzanne's family and friends as I read her obituary and her life.
We had been friends in the early years of Dillworth Elementary and I remember playing a few times at her house on 21st South and always thought of her when in Salt Lake driving down 21st South as I passed her home. Later years at Dillworth I played more with friends in m neighborhood. I only made it to our 20th and 50th reunion but both reunions Suzanne would find me to share she taught at Dillworth and lived in the family home on 21st South. Such a sweet soul!
Reading her life story she achieved so much and found her passion and gifts which just makes me smile and Praise God🙏❤️🙏
