Salt Lake CityAnne Parker Story, "Annie" to her siblings and those who knew her earliest, died peacefully on the morning of September 11, 2026, at the age of 75. A lifelong Salt Laker, devoted mother and grandmother, legendary biology teacher, voracious reader, prolific knitter, loyal friend, and unmistakable presence in the lives of generations of people around her, Anne leaves behind a community much larger than any conventional definition of family.

Anne was born November 23, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Trent and Edna Parker and grew up with five wonderful siblings. She attended Highland High before attending pharmacy school at the University of Utah, and in midlife returned to higher education, earning a bachelor's degree in biology from Westminster College.

Anne was extraordinarily bright, hardworking, creative and industrious. More simply, she was a doer. Motherhood was at the center of Anne's world. She was an energetic and deeply involved mother: an organizer, volunteer, advocate, chauffeur, cheerleader and ever-present participant in her children's lives. She attended every sporting event and was a raucous sideline fan.

In midlife, while raising three young children and navigating enormous changes in her own life, Anne went back to school to become a high school biology teacher. She believed in young people, expected something of them, and wanted them to believe something greater was possible for themselves.

She also knew what she liked. She loved cheesecake, Fritos with cottage cheese, Jimmy Dean sausages, books, yarn and good music. She valued good manners, proper behavior, gratitude, hard work, and beauty and good design. She loved traditions and holidays and approached family celebrations with the same attention to detail she brought to nearly everything else. All of these parts of Anne created countless happy memories and an absolutely lovely childhood for her children.

Anne's life also required considerable resilience, in particular overcoming significant health challenges and enduring the death of her daughter, Megan. She faced these challenges with a remarkable constitution and an almost uncanny ability to rally. She rarely complained and often gave a considerably more optimistic account of her health than circumstances warranted.

Anne's faith in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ was an important source of purpose throughout her life and of comfort as she approached its end. She believed deeply that death was not the end of our relationships with those we love, and she looked forward to being reunited with Megan, her parents and other family members who had gone before her.

Anne is survived by her daughter, Elle (Nate) Rogers; her son, Nate (Jana) Story; her four beloved grandchildren, Sam, Max, Will and Jane Rogers; and her siblings Trudy Evans (Jim Snow), Jared Parker (Marsha), Wendy Parker, and Lewis Parker (Kathy). She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, along with a remarkable extended family of dear friends, devoted neighbors, generations of students, and all others who had the good fortune to find themselves in Anne's orbit.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Megan Story; her parents, Trent and Edna Parker; her brother-in-law, Steven Evans; and her younger sister, Tina Parker.

The Christlike and heroic service Anne received from her friends and neighbors did not go unnoticed and was deeply appreciated. Anne herself would probably consider all of this far too much fuss. So perhaps the most fitting way to remember her is simply this: do something kind for someone else, believe in somebody who needs believing in, and tell the people you love that you love them and you are proud of them.

An Open House to celebrate Anne's life will be held Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 1525 Penrose Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillside Stake Center, 1900 East 1400 South. The family will informally receive friends and family beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108.
