Alan Jared Campbell

Alan died May 9, 2000 from melanoma. This is his obituary printed May 11, 2000.

Our husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and best friend, Jared Alan Campbell, age 48, passed away May 9, 2000, with the loving care of his family near. He died at his home in Sandy after a valiant fight with melanoma cancer.

Jared was born July 20, 1951, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the second child of LaVerna and the late Vere X Campbell. He served a LDS mission in the southern states. He treasured his mission and stated, "part of me will always be in the South". He had a desire to help and touched many hearts. He married Teresa Hicks and they were later divorced. They had three children that he loved dearly. Jared married his eternal sweetheart, Kathryn (Kathi) Evans Lund in 1992 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from Highland high school, received a BS degree in Geography at the "U", and a MBA from University of Phoenix. Jared worked as an urban city planner for over 23 years, most recently for West Valley City. He was very proud of the progress and development of the City.

His mother taught him a deep love for music. He received great joy and happiness from art and classical music, and sang with the Utah Opera Chorus for over 13 years. He was a member of the Utah Opera Guild and taught hundreds of high school and junior high students promoting the joy of opera. He served on the Board of Directors for the Chamber Orchestra "Opus". He loved the Gospel; his favorite position was teaching songs to the primary children. He faithfully served his Church as Music Chorister and Choir Director for several wards and was presently serving as instructor for his High Priest Quorum.

He "absolutely" loved his wife, Kathi, and his family. Pleasure came from seeing them and spending time with them. Their favorite place to visit together was Disneyland; "he was just a kid at heart". Jared loved his brothers and sisters and had a special relationship with them.

Jared Alan is survived by his wife Kathi; three children: Heather (Dillion) Xiao, Jared Edward, and Vanessa; three stepchildren: R. Scott Lund, Justin Lund and Kami Lund; his mother; brother and sisters Galen (Susan), Kathy Horton (Dirk), Connie Madsen (Robert), and Angela Jensen (Peter); and three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to our nurse, Rosemary, and Dr.'s and nurses at Huntsman Cancer Inst. and "U" Hospital for their tender care and support.
